Why This Reference Exists
Printed New Braunfels directories are historical sources, while current information is divided among many custodians. Comal CAD maintains parcel and owner fields. The Comal County Clerk records deeds and other official instruments. Election records, courts, vital statistics, the public library, Sophienburg, and TSLAC each answer a different question. The goal is to make the proper search route, access limit, and archive shelf easier to identify before time is spent in the wrong system.
What the Directory Organizes
- Searches by question: the street directory for address-keyed sources, the historical city directory collections, and the one-person resident lookup
- Custodian routes: Comal CAD, the County Clerk, elections, courts, vital records, and local history institutions
- Record methods: steps for reading a directory listing, comparing a parcel with a deed, and tracing a historical household
- Access boundaries: Texas Public Information Act routing, source-specific restrictions, and the difference between public access and lawful use
